PLEASE don't drink and drive, for kids sake

I took care of a 9 year old girl this past week. She was in an accident caused by a drunk driver. She has a brain injury along with multiple other injuries. She had surgery for broken bones and placed in a spika cast. If you don't know what that is, look it up. She has not responded much since the accident, and they don't know the extent of her brain injury yet. If she is lucky, she will be able to do her activities of daily living all by herself with intense therapy. If not, she may not be able to do anything for herself and her parents will carry the load.

I believe that drunk drivers are some of the most selfish people on earth! They don't think and don't care about what may happen to someone else because of their actions, and especially innocent children! So I am BEGGING you and anyone you might know to NEVER drive after having more than 2 drinks or if you feel the least bit different after a drink or two.

Take alternative transportation if you must. Trains might not be available, but surely there are taxis, subways, or friends where you live!

This has been a public announcement brought to you by a professional healthcare worker.

  1. Thank you for the reminder! We have a young friend who is still in a coma from a drunk driving accident last Sept. We keep hoping for the best. Many hugs & healing thoughts to your patient.

  2. Thanks Karen. So sad with young folks get caught in a crossfire, or cause it themselves! Best wishes to your friend's family.

  3. Oh my. That's really unfortunate. This is just another example of how serious the consequences can be of driving under the influence. I hope the driver, at the very least, shows responsibility for their actions. It's a shame that people don't really realize the risks they pose while driving under influence until they commit something devastating.

  4. Thanks Reynalda. I have no idea what happened to the drunk driver. I only know a child's life was altered forever! What is the DUI defense team? Can there be a defense for it?? Please tell me more!

  5. Driving under the influence is never a good practice to follow. The driver doesn’t only potentially hurt themselves, but the other people they might encounter on the road. And regardless of how the driver handled this situation, the event itself will forever stay in his mind. I hope this story could help spread realization and awareness about the matter.

  6. Even if that girl survived the severe brain injury, I doubt her life would ever be the same afterwards. Disastrous stories like hers should be a significant lesson to every drivers out there to act responsibly when they are behind the wheel. Anyway, thank you for your venerable advocacy against drunk driving. Let’s hope that by helping spread awareness about the matter, more drivers would learn not to underestimate the severity of its cost. I wish your patient well, Rodney!
