A friend of mine posted this Poem on her blog http://whenlifehandsyoukids.blogspot.com/
I loved it enough to share on my blog, and I will throw in my 2 cents for what they are worth. Any thoughts from my readers are always appreciated.
"Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.”
Go placidly amid the noise and haste. I love this sentiment. Being peaceful and quiet is the best way in my opinion. And don't mistake quiet for not speaking up. Speak your truth quietly and clearly!
Avoid Loud and aggressive people. Exactly! Put another way, we should avoid ALL things that drain our energy, people and otherwise. We don't need to be friends with everyone. We shouldn't allow ourselves to be bullied, AND we shouldn't try to
bully others. Go our own ways to whatever makes us happy.
BE YOURSELF... ALWAYS. There are a lot of quotes out there
about being yourself. But I like Dr. Seuss's the most. You truly are
the ONLY YOU there is. Why would you even want to try and be
Someone else? That seems silly to me.
Take kindly the counsel of the years. We all get old, and that is not
a bad thing necessarily. And be gentle with yourself. This might
be the most important part of the poem. We ALL make mistakes.
We all would "like" to do things differently perhaps. But we learn
the most from our mistakes! So, if you have done something you
consider "wrong", learn from it and continue to grow!
Keep peace with your soul. Amen. Your soul is your most
precious and valuable asset to yourself, your existence! Don't
ever jeopardize that for ANYTHING! It is all part of being
totally true to YOU.
It is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful and strive to be happy.
Well, I think you all know how I feel about that one. Ha Ha.
Be cheerful! Love whole heartedly, and I believe Love will
lead you, me, ALL of us to Happiness! Do you agree?
No Go Out and Hug Someone Today!!!

Yes I agree! In fact, I have a poster with that poem on it. We need constant reminders of the good in our world, and in our lives. Love, Hope,& Joy will go far to sustain us in difficult times. Thanks for the reminder!
You know it as well as anyone Karen! Keep spreading the Love!
